Sonus 2016 Predictions: NFV, SDN, VoLTE, VoWi-Fi
Description
With 2015 just about over, RCR Wireless News spoke with Sonus to get the company's view on what it expects in 2016.
Kevin Riley, CTO and VP of Engineering at Sonus, touched on a number of topics, including the telecom industry's ongoing move towards virtualization technologies like NFV, SDN and cloud. Riley noted he expects more involved proof of concepts leading into 2016, with some of the market's leading telecom operators in the space looking at some initial commercial deployments as the year progresses.
Riley also provided his thoughts on the continued rollout of VoLTE and VoWi-Fi services, which to this point have been somewhat slow due to a lack of handset availability and interconnection between carriers. Those two issues are expected to be tackled as 2016 rolls on due to mobile operators becoming more familiar with the technologies and more comfortable with performance and reliability.
