GL Communications: The Evolution Of Voice Testing
Description
In this conversation, we talked to Robert Bichefsky, Senior Manager, and Jagdish Vadalia, Senior Manager, at GL Communications about how the evolution in testing and monitoring is changing how operators test and assess traffic with VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling.
Robert told us: “End-to-end testing is very important. It’s the user perception of how the quality is. You’re going to send voice at one end of the call, where a user would be talking, and record voice at the other end of the call, where a user would be listening. It’s basically mimicking the users’ mouth and ears.”
Virtualization is a key driver in the evolution of testing. “Once anything is virtualized, we have to be careful about whether the performance of the virtualized environment is sufficient to meet the voice requirements. A virtualized environment may introduce delays, jitter, maybe packet loss, and so forth in voice and data. Many aspects of virtualization have to be looked at,” Jagdish said.
