RCR Mobile Minute: Mobile Security News
Description
Mobile security experts are questioning reports that smartphones and computers were quickly hacked when an NBC reporter took them to the Sochi Winter Olympics. One blog post from a security expert says the reporter downloaded the malware himself, and that he shot the report in Moscow, not in Sochi.
Meanwhile mobile networks are not getting the blame for the massive security breach that gave hackers access to credit card data belonging to millions of Target customers. The Wall Street Journal reports that Target had allowed a contractor to access its IT system in order to bill Target for services rendered. That contractor was hacked, and the perpetrators were able to eventually access Target's system.
The contractor supplied refrigerators for Target's supermarkets, and the same company also works with other big box vendors including Walmart and Costco. But the company says it does not have remote access to the systems for those retailers.
