Description

AT&T is arguably one of the most prominent telecom operator proponents of virtualized network technologies, having already announced plans to have 75% of its network operations turned over to software-defined networking, network functions virtualization and cloud platforms by 2020.

The operator has since backed up those plans with numerous updates to its progress, including the expansion of its SDN-based Network on Demand service and that it had tapped NFV and SDN to bolster its Gigapower broadband service.

This week we spoke with Andre Fuetsch, SVP of architecture and design at AT&T, to get further updates on the telecom operator’s progress, including targeted market segments for virtualized platforms, challenges AT&T has seen in its SDN and NFV deployments, and future challenges the telecom operator feels need to be tackled in order for broader virtualization deployments.

Make sure to join us on Aug. 7 for our next live episode of NFV/SDN Reality Check when we are scheduled to speak with Robert Oberhofer, VP of product at ItsOn.
