Description

The DC Tech Cocktail was definitely a good event to attend last night. The $20 something ticket, $15 parking and hour an a half one way drive was a bit daunting, but I would recommend any geeks that have a Tech Cocktail in there area should go. The event was packed with good people, and there were around 20 startups that setup tables to show off their wares.

Notes from the Event:

Per the Event itself...

Bottled Water... At many tech events there is always more then enough beer, but almost never enough bottled water. Even though my ticket paid for 2 drinks I didn't want to partake since I had a long drive home. The water I could get was meagerly doled out in small cups.
If you didn't have to drive home there was a lot of beer to be had. Some founders were having a bit of trouble standing up straight by the end...

Rumor Mill...

Word on the street is Parking Panda failed when it came to people who had purchased parking through their app trying to leave the parking garages. The attendants did not recognize the prepayment, and this caused issues.
Woofound appears to be funded to the tune of $2 million. They will be coming out with a new Facebook app to help people figure out the jobs they would do best at.
Marker.ly has been selected by 500 Startups and has pivoted to provide their highlighting service for publishers instead of directly to consumers. Apparently their new service increases content on sites sharing by 10-25%...
Some DC tech people appear to imagine the Baltimore Tech scene is more vibrant and communal then theirs is... (What's the emoticon for rolling on the round laughing hysterically?)
Hin.ge, the Facebook Dating Service app that tries to match you with other Facebook users, seems to sometimes give some creepy results. Apparently it has been known to suggest you date your own Mom...
Startup Grind will be coming to DC shortly and is looking to attract some high profile speakers that do not normally do speaking events.
