#TSCS: Network Virtualization Strategies For HetNet, Small Cells, & CloudRan
Description
The transition toward a virtualized RAN is developing in phases. The introduction of the centralized RAN starts with partitioning remote radio heads (RRHs) and pooling baseband units (BBUs) in base station hotels. The new centralized RAN architecture is driving the need for high-capacity fiber optic fronthaul to support CIPRI connections between RRHs and baseband pools, centralized data centers and carrier hotels. Some vendors have proposed an innovative All-Access Network approach to enable Urban Small Cells and Cloud-RAN technologies and overcome today's challenging connectivity problems. Although CIPRI fronthaul requirements are currently the challenge for RAN virtualization, the next opportunity is dynamic capacity allocation to autonomously allocate capacity to where and when it is needed.
