TeliaSonera reps said the company’s 4G data traffic has surpassed 3G traffic just as the company celebrated its fifth anniversary. 4G traffic now accounts for more than 50 percent of all mobile use in Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
The Global Mobile Suppliers Association estimates that the number of global LTE subscriptions hit the 373 million mark after the close of the third fiscal quarter of 2014. North America is the leading global LTE market with a 39 percent share.
News out of China, state-owned telecom operators have a stranglehold on the music industry, Billboard reports. Major mobile providers like China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom take around 90% to 94% of the profit they make from music subscriptions. That leaves just 4% or 5% for service providers and a paltry 1% for whoever holds rights to the music.
North Korean authorities have been shutting down telecom towers near the country’s north border to curtail nationals from using Chinese phones and mobile service to browse the web and make calls.
