Inside Bahnhof AB District Heating And Cooling System With CEO, Jon Karlung
Description
Bahnhof AB CEO, Jon Karlung, gives RCR Wireless an inside look at the complex ventilation system that helps the company harness the excessive heat generated by the data centre to maximize the facility's power usage efficiency.
Bohnhof is changing data center operating model by using energy twice. In this specific case, the heat generated by Bohnhof's Stockholm data center is sold back to the the local utility company to heat 500 apartment units in the area. Fortum, the local utility company operates what is called a "district heating and cooling system" which means they operate a large centralized boiler room that during the winter uses hot water to heat tens of thousands of apartment units and buildings in Stockholm. In the summer, cold water is pumped into the same apartments and buildings to cool properties.
Karlung and Fortum forecast that recapturing heat generated by data centers will transform the way data centers will be built and operated in the future.
