This is what many startups and tech events are doing and they don't even realize it. Beyond simply having no plan on how to deal with press that wants to give them favorable coverage many times they create self defeating policies.
All startups and events should answer a few very simple questions:
Do we want the media to cover us?
Do we have a clear way to handle media relations?
Does our media policy make sense both for us, and for them?
