As part of the FCC’s review of phasing out plain old telephone service (POTS) and transitioning to all IP-based networks, the Commission asked network operators to provide ideas and conduct a series of technology trials in certain areas, including rural locations. The goal is to find more efficient, cost-effective ways to support broadband deployment in rural areas.
